Equities

Equities are shares in companies, each giving its holder a slice of ownership and a claim on part of the company's profits. Investors use the word for stocks as an asset class, as opposed to fixed income such as bonds. The full explanation of what shares are and how they are issued and traded is on the Stock page.

Equity investments come in two main kinds, common stock and preferred stock, and are often held through an equity fund.
