A stablecoin off-ramp is a service that takes a customer's stablecoins, such as USDT or USDC, and pays out the equivalent in national currency to a bank account, card, mobile wallet or cash agent. It is a fiat off-ramp where the asset being cashed out is a stablecoin, and the banking, licensing and payout side is explained in full in Fiat Off-Ramp.
The cash-out can happen in two ways. An exchange or payment firm can buy the coins and pay the customer from its own bank accounts, or an eligible customer can return the coins directly to the issuer through stablecoin redemption. The customer's view of the same step is covered under crypto off-ramp. Off-ramps are a key leg of stablecoin-based cross-border payments, where coins sent abroad must end up as local money. The reverse direction is the stablecoin on-ramp.
