National Income

National income is the total income earned by a country's residents and businesses over a year, including income from abroad. Today it is usually measured as gross national income (GNI), explained in full on that page, or as net national income after allowing for wear on equipment.

It is closely related to gross domestic product (GDP), which counts output inside the borders, and to the older gross national product (GNP).
