The forward P/E ratio is a company's share price divided by the earnings per share expected over the next 12 months, usually an average of analysts' forecasts. It shows how much investors are paying for future profits. It is one version of the price-to-earnings ratio (P/E), which is explained in full on that page.
Because forecasts can be wrong, it is usually read alongside the trailing P/E ratio, which uses reported earnings.
