A crowdsale is a public sale of newly created crypto tokens to raise money for a project, usually through a smart contract that sends tokens to buyers in exchange for ether or another coin. It is another name for an initial coin offering (ICO), which is explained in full on that page; the word was common in 2016–2018, when Ethereum published a standard crowdsale contract template.
