Will mobile phones remain just a tool to initiate payments, or will they become the primary payment instrument themselves?

The mobile phone cannot become the payment instrument as yet, though every indication is that it is transitioning towards that. The mobile is today more or less the delivery channel for payment and continues to grow strong in this arena. Its only a matter of time, the device would be considered a payment instrument also (in the strictest of banking terminology).
