Why do ultra-wealthy people invest in second passports?

Most of the UHNI that I know, come from either Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, etc.

They obtain the second passport for two reasons:

• First and foremost is travel. If you have passports from 3rd world countries (or developing countries) most of the time visas are your nemesis. You have to fill out visa applications and apply for visa to visit another country. It can be something as simple as 1 days affair or as long as 3–4 weeks. What most of the Western world takes for granted, is a major pain in the ass assignment for us lesser privileged passport holders. • As Thomas Miller said, Insurance Policy. Should shit hit the fan, you know you have the ability to simply hop on a plane and leave your country to go to the country from where the other passport was issued from.
