Which startups are currently active in the money transfer and remittance space?

See some startups in the Period Table of Remittances (Periodic Table of Remittances). There are literally 100s of companies, some established, some in stealth mode, some in US, most of them outside the US (due to US licensing issues), etc. No one to the best of my knowledge has compiled a comprehensive list of startups in the money transfer business on a worldwide basis.
