I've always felt the best learning you can get is via product demos. Research for companies in the mobile payment space and finding out some decent mobile payment blogs. Read from there. The first order of business is to understand the lingua franca of this business. If you can't speak or comprehend what they are talking, making any leeway into the landscape, would be difficult.
Product demo videos (think YouTube), are plenty, and they do a good job of explaining the concepts, etc. Take notes, Google / Wiki terms you are not familiar with. Wikipedia is a great resource to learn the basics / fundamentals.
Reading through product literature is also a goldmine (IMHO).
Forums and Q&A sites are your best bet to learn also. Especially Quora, where many newbies and seasoned professionals interact and answer questions or give pointers.
If you have a chance, some OEMs do webcasts that are scheduled weekly or monthly, try attending one of those. In your initial days of trying to learn this landscape, you can (if you wish) literally be bombarded and overloaded with information. You will need to pace yourself and classify and sift through all that is coming your way.
Your initial months (4-5) should mostly be in receive mode. Just absorb everything and then slowly start interacting.
Good luck on your endeavor and feel free to ask for help.
