What is the most misunderstood aspect of cryptocurrency?

Two things…

First, if I can use the analogy of the big bang, we are in the inflationary stages of cryptocurrencies, some might argue, the dark ages even.

The planets, the stars, the gold dust, life itself has yet to bloom. We are in the very early stages, so cryptocurrencies today might not be there tomorrow, but their evolutionary work and presence today, might yield to a more functional and acceptable cryptocurrencies tomorrow.

So, before you complain no one uses this, or its no where to be found, or the application case is extremely limited, please look at the diagram above. Wait for the Development of Galaxies, Planet, etc. phase.

Secondly, that Bitcoin is not the Blockchain and vice versa. Most new entrants widely use these two as interchangeable.
