What benefits does a Visa prepaid card offer compared with a standard gift card?

A regular gift card, would most likely be a closed loop card, i.e. it would work only within the confines of a particular establishment, say Wal-Mart or Apple Store or Disney. A pre-paid gift card will work anywhere and everywhere, where there is a VISA merchant (which nowadays is pretty much everywhere), so the VISA prepaid card is more like an open-loop system. Wider acceptance.
