M-PESA in Kenya. There are many other examples for other MFS controlled markets, each with a varying degree of "almost" replacing your wallet. In the US, some would argue PayPal, others would say Venmo. For the unbanked, people take solace with PayToo.
Likewise in emerging markets, Pakistan has EasyPaisa, Bangladesh has bkash, Philippines has Smart, Europe has its own sets of apps. Russia has Yandex Money, etc.
It is truly difficult to find one true global app or regional app that would dominate (as much as M-PESA).
