Nothing is dead unless they say so. Stellar has been trying to get the momentum going. Joyce Kim's been working the circuit a lot to get more awareness on the Stellar project and get traction going.
At present, from what I know, they are working on their code base to make it more stable and scalable.
Some cite the investment made by Stripe into Stellar as their worst investment, others say, give it time. Many people point the finger at McCaleb for not streamlining things and I guess there is some truth to that.
If they focused more on getting a stable & scalable release out and market it, the project could see expanded interest and acceptance.
