Eventually, yes, the US Dollar will end. Will it be in the next 50 years or 100 years or 400 years, no one knows. However, in this globally connected economy and one that is now preparing to jettison humanity to another rock in place, the US Dollar would eventually lose its value. Some argue, money itself as an instrument of value and exchange would cease to exist (did you ever see a Star Wars, or Star Trek episode where gold or Euro or future currency was being negotiated?) Eugene (Gene) Roddenberry - the creator of Star Trek certainly did not envision so.

In the short term run, say the next 100–200 years (perhaps less), there is a lot of pressure on the United States Dollar to retain its place on top of the mantel. In all probability, the US Dollar era is starting to close.
