In one word: Yes!
In the world of finance, especially financial markets, Bloomberg and ThomsonReuters are two brands that are synonymous with the word "stock trading'. They are the Airbus and Boeing of the financial world. Their fierce battle for market space is almost that of Coke and Pepsi.
I can speak from personal experience related to market data only (I'm sure other more qualified members can speak with respect to the Bloomberg terminal, etc.)
Almost all the world's exchanges are covered by ThomsonReuters and Bloomberg, so by that statement alone, Bloomberg is pretty famous. They have their points of presence in almost every country (which has a stock exchange). Granted some very very low volume exchanges are not covered, but if there is a market for that stock exchange's market feed, rest assured Bloomberg will cover it.
The Bloomberg terminal was one of the first and major competition to the very dull trading screen/terminal that was provided by Reuters (now ThompsonReuters). The Bloomberg terminal was also the first dual-screen terminal to be provided. At roughly US$ 2,000/month for a standard terminal, there are over 300,000 Bloomberg terminals in operation currently.
