In what respects are credit cards superior to cash or checks as payment tools?

I hold the view that being able to reverse a payment is perhaps the most important reason I have for using the credit card. That consumer protection of being able to call my bank up and reverse the transaction because I was not at all happy with the product/service delivered and request a refund, is something that I can do on my credit card, but not whilst using cash or cheque (if the cheque has cleared).
