How many private U.S. companies exist, and what percent have 50 or fewer employees?

I'm not sure if that data is complied (it just might be). But as a reference, a rock-solid source for labor based statistics is the Bureau of Labor Statistics - they have quite an extensive data gathering and report options for you to look at.
