Western Union usually has a designated bank (sometimes multiple banks) for each territory they operate in. Agents are required to open an account there. These accounts get replenished every day based on the net settlement of the transaction that an agent does.

In some countries, you are not required to open an account with the same bank, you just get the funds credited to your bank account.
