Swiss Bank lend and invest money like any other commercial bank. They do both priviate and institutional lending.

A lot of the smaller Swiss banks, do lending to larger banks.

They do investment banking and use money there. They structure and finance deals like infrastructure projects, etc. They have financial products with varying risks where money can be invested in (by depositors), from low interest vehicles, to high-risk/high-returns financial instruments. They are a very active player in the currency/FX markets.

They are inherently, no different than any other large/mid-sized commercial bank.
