You are absolutely correct in assuming you can never tell about a company. So siding with caution is always the best approach.
Here is the domain registry information about COOLHUNT.NET
Another important tool is the Way Back Machine, which is powered by the Internet Archive. The Way Back Machine will most likely have ALL the previous version of the website, since it started (and in this case the domain seems to have been booked in 2000, and the website, shortly afterwards).

On the top is the calendar, click on any year and then on any of the dates with the blue circle, and you should be able to see snapshot of how the website on this domain was at the time.
