On-ground surveys, where you ask the relevant questions and do it all across. Nothing beats on-ground level data. The more the merrier.
You don't have to immediately build an MVP to validate it. In my opinion, survey-validate the issue as broadly as possible.
The most important aspect of the survey is not to influence it in any manner. You negative influence the survey by either not incorporating the right (tough!) questions or by not asking the right target market, etc.
Its the problem and the solution that you need to validate. Not the technology bit, which is just an enabler.
