Can U.S. bank account numbers include alphabetic characters?

For the US, it is digits only. A change in ASC X9 is required, which is the financial services standard development organisation would have to implement a change in order to allow US Banks to have alphanumeric numbers in Bank Accounts, which they currently do not have.
