Are Visa Checkout and MasterPass genuine threats to PayPal, and how should PayPal respond?

Potentially everything is a threat to PayPal. The question that begs to be asked is if VISA Checkout or MasterPass will garner enough traction to essentially dethrone PayPal? (My take on this would be no!).
I don't think we've seen the card scheme products mature to that level to compete directly head-on with wallets. In the scheme of things to come, I think the offering of V/Checkout & MasterPass may go through additional development cycles.
Being in the payments industry, I can tell you a very very small fraction of my friends are aware of V/Checkout & MasterPass, let alone use it.
I think the long threat is the other way around, to the card associations themselves.
